Life Blog – 234-240 Lamborghini Dreams

Tuesday 15/03/2011 – Friday 18/03/2011. These were normal run of the mill work days, broken up only by a Friday morning visit to the Nurse so she could once again flush my Hickman line and change the bandage. It did mean that I was very busy on Friday when I got back to work after it though.

I didn’t mind the busy day on Friday however,  as it was  my last day for a whole week as I had booked a week off for some rest and relaxation!

Saturday 19/03/2011. Carl aka Driverman was having a Driving Experience day at Silverstone, doing three laps of the track in a Lamborghini. It sounded fun so we went along to give a bit of support and shoot a few photographs. We arrived at The Elf’s in Bicester at 12 and after a cup of tea we headed over to Silverstone.

A little bit of a lack of communication meant we arrived very early which meant we did a fair bit of standing around but it wasn’t a problem as there was a few things to see and we had lunch in the Welcome Centre. It has to be said the service was  way off being slick but never mind, it kept the hunger away – let’s leave it at that.

Because it was the weekend it was very busy and for me the overiding impression I was left with was that it was all geared towards parting people from their money. Perhaps I expect too much for my money, but it felt like a production line rather than a special treat for Driverman but hey ho perhaps that’s just me getting old.

Soon enough Carl was called to have his turn and suddenly the waiting and hanging around was forgotten and a big boyish smile spread across his face as he sat in the driving seat and listened to a few last minute instructions. Check out his grin here!

Last Minute instructions

Soon enough he was off and he loved it. Previously he had had a single seater day which for us as observers was excellent as we had good viewing platforms and could get great pictures.  From Driverman’s point of view though this was much better! As spectators though we could not get much in the way of photos as we were shooting from just one embankment staring through a very high wire fence, so the single seater experience was a better spectacle. At the end of the day though it is all about the driver and he loved it and that is what counts!

Sunday 20/03/2011. Sunday was something of an anticlimax after Lambo day and we just lazed about at home doing frankly not very much. What was nice though was that there was no work the next day!

Waking the Dead was good and a tad scary too.

Monday and Tuesday were largely given over to nest building as we spent most of Monday tidying up the front garden and Tuesday doing the back garden. Very satisfying work though as a few hours work puts the gardens back to shape and you can really see the difference the hard work made. Monday night saw us watching the Conclusion of the Waking the Dead two parter! Scary!

After we had taken the rubbish to the tip on Tuesday we even managed a walk on the Malvern Hills. Our usual walk starts  just behind our house as we cross the road and begin a very steep initial climb. At the end of this first steep bit are some steps which mark the hardest point of the ascent and a picture of these steps has made it as our Picture of The Week for this week!

Time now to rediscover Memory Lane. I was chatting on the phone with MINIsoopercooper from the Severns MINI club this week. he was feeling somewhat triumphant after fitting a replacement power steering pump on his MINI (Spike).  However, it put in my mind some of the great events we have done with the Severns and my mind went back to September 2010 when The Severns Went Camping in Seend in Wiltshire. It was as always a fun weekend and I hope to get some more camping in at some point this year!

That’s all for now take care and remember smiling not only improves your looks but it is good for you too, so it’s tara for now from this grinning monkey! :)

Life Blog – 229-233 Birthday Boy

Thursday 10/03/2011 to Monday 14/03/2011.  Life is settling to a real routine and in truth that is why I am blogging a bit less. There is a feeling of normality about life, which at the moment is only interrupted by reality on little occasions. One is on Fridays when I go to the Health Centre for the nurse to flush my Hickman line and rebandage it. The other time that reality comes along to interrupt my phoney reality is when I undress for bed and I am confronted with the Hickman line sticking out of my chest!

Peanut’s Mum has recently been in the wars as she had two days in hospital while they did a small operation to fix an aneurism which she had developed. Might have only been two days in hospital but make no mistake the operation was a vital lifesaver. So On Saturday the 12th we went to Ashford in Kent to see how Brenda was getting on. Still sore but on the right road to recovery!

We stayed overnight and watched the live FA Cup match between Man United and Arsenal on TV. I actually saw encouraging signs as it was the first time I had watched United and actually thought they played well. The way I saw it Arsenal could have tried all night to dribble the ball into the net and they would never have got past Smalling and Vidic! 2-0 to United Whoop whoop! :D

Peanut then cooked a roast chicken dinner for the three of us which was a big success and the most Brenda had eaten since her operation!

Sunday was a lazy morning and a cooked breakfast and after chicken sandwiches for lunch we tackled the 3 and a half hour drive home!

The evening saw us watch Waking The Dead – a first for both of us and we really enjoyed it though for me I found it quite intense and I was on the edge of my seat a lot! Still it prepared me well for the final episode of the poorly rated and now kyboshed Outcasts! Yay I have it on good authority that me and peanut are the only people in the country who actually watched every episode of this series!

Monday 14/03/2011. This was my birthday – 51 years young! I went to work as normal and took cakes in for everyone in our office. I think I’m supposed to give warning that it was my birthday but ho um I didn’t – guess that’s a me thing! I had already had my presents, some Opel GT driving gloves, which Mum paid for with some money she sent me for my birthday ( fanks Mum, they are brilliant); an Opel GT umbrella from Peanut (so I don’t get rain on my gayboy poncy streaked but lookin’ good hair!) fanks P; and the superb watch Montage from the Elf – just awesome and in case you missed it, here it is again!

Picture of The Week 7 - Time Pieces

I also got some cool cards and people had gone to a lot of trouble  with them. Mum had even found a card with a watch on, while Unle Roy and Brenda had got me cards with cool cars on! A grinning Monkey card was fun too and Pat and Harry sent me a lovely message in their card!

We didn’t do anything special to celebrate my birthday, though Peanut made us a very tasy cottage pie which we shared. Me likes Mrs P’s cottage pies! :)

Then I remebered that me ole mate Ray had given me a birthday present too. He gave it me ages ago and I kept it for my birthday knowing I would probably have nothing to open on my actual birthday otherwise. Peanut fetched it from the attic and I opened it with trembling hands full of anticipation.

The box opened and I stared inside. A revelation of joy and wonderment hit me as I realised that my life was perfect!  I looked at Ray’s gift and realised that quite simply I have everything a man could want in life! I must have as this was very definitely a gift you buy for “the man who has everything!”

RVW and Storm had bought me a rather groovy Henry desk hoover! Brilliant and now all the words of nonsense that fall off my blog and on to my desk can be hoovered away by Henry! No more Frostie flakes on my desk or Weetabix crumbs. Sugar granules – gone! Since I got my Henry I even found my pen on my desk too! Awesome! :)

All in all a great birthday and in truth I only paused for reflection for a short while. I was 50 when the fight against the Big C began and now we take the battle into another year  as I fight it at the age of 51. Where will I be at 52 I pondered. God knows but if I have my way there will be a Peanut, watches and cars involved!;):D

Life Blog – 222 – 228 Marking Time

The Chemotherapy is behind me and this is a little halcyon period marking time as I get stronger and fitter every day and wait for the scan appointments to come through. In truth then this is more a personal diary of what I have been up to, as there is no news from the war front. It is what I have called before part of the “Phoney War.”

Thursday 03/03/2011. A work day, an ordinary day and a day that has nothing about it worth recording so that is ok then.

Friday 04/03/2011. The day began with a trip to the Health centre so they could flush my Hickman line and change the bandage on it. This gave me a shorter but extremely busy day in work. However, this made the day fly by and all too soon it was evening and time for weekend fun.

We were off to Bicester to see Carl and Amelia and have a little spend in Debenhams and managed to get away at about five so arrived at about half six. We had a fun night with the Elf and Driverman and all shared a KFC with coleslaw but with a portion of real chips from the chippy! Very nice indeed.

Saturday 05/03/2011. We all got up at a reasonable time and headed for Debenhams in Banbury. They had a big sale and Peanut was due a treat so a big spend was called for. This was hard work for the boys as it meant we were in Debenhams until gone two in the afternoon! Peanut came away with two tops some jeans and a pair of jeggings. Also a rather groovy frying pan which incidentally she also looks good in. Total cost £158 but after sale and staff reductions it came to £92, so all in all  a good saving.  On reflection though in truth £92 was still more than enough to pay for what we actually came away with.

All in all a fun day with great company!

Sunday 06/03/2011. Back home  and a quiet peaceful day of not doing a great deal, though we did do a photograph for our Picture a Week project which we thought was a reasonable effort. It is the cottage at the gate of the Madresfield estate.

The day was spoiled however by Liverpool beating Man United 3-1 in the league, so let’s move on shall we?

Monday 07/03/2011, Tuesday 08/03/2011, Wednesday 09/03/2011. Work days and me working normal hours and feeling just fine. It is an odd time indeed. I feel really well, really healthy and yet there  is a battle raging inside my body, while I just play a waiting game, getting my full strength back and waiting for my body to be ready for the next set of scans!

Speak soon bye for now! xx

Life Blog – Days 213 -221 The Waiting Game

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 22-24 February 2011. Work on Monday and then Tuesday I wake to utter exhaustion. Quite simply I had these three days off work and it just wasn’t a lot of laughs, I was just too tired to do anything except sleep and wallow about. Six sessions of Chemo over twelve weeks had built up and these few days were days of utter exhaustion. Still onwards and upwards.

Friday 25/02/2011. The corner was turned, I woke with a bit of energy so went to work and managed it till about three by which time I was struggling a bit. However, it was just hard work on top of a weak body and after a rest at home I was ok. The Twilight nurses rang and asked if I could go early for the flush and change of plaster on my Hickman line and this suited me fine so I went straight away. This cleared the decks for the evening and we had a big shop to do. I don’y normally get involved in all this complicated stuff but for a change we went together. This meant a special treat as the first stop was the chippy for a fish supper which we ate in the back of the Clubman bang in the middle of Barnard’s Green. It was lovely and we felt like a pair of daft teenagers. It’s amazing how many MINI owneres are real control freaks and ban food in their cars but for us it is a mobile living room and there to be used, abused and have fun in and the fish, chips, sausage and peas were yummy.

It is always best to do a food shop on a full tummy so next we hit Waitrose and I did my best to help Peanut with the foodshop. To be honest I got quite into it until the solid floors started to draw on my feet and make me tired. Anyway we had got the Crunchie Dairy Milk and a box of Maltesers so that was the main thing!

Saturday 26/02/2011. We got up early and I took Peanut to work, so that when I picked her up later we could go straight out. However, first, Part One of the rebirth of Beastie. It was fourteen weeks since my last haircut so one was long overdue. 9 am then, saw me at Archangels for a cut blow and a mega wallop of gay boy highlights to cheer me up. It gave me a shock when he was parting my hair as he cut it to see how thin it had gone, but it doesn’t show on the final result and that should thicken up again over the coming weeks!

The afternoon was a bit dull because Peanut was at work, but I went to see her in work at Six which was fun as we had a chat and natter while she worked and then at 7.30 when she finished we went straight off for the Yam MINI Pub meet at the Waggon and Horses in Wombourne. It was a really fun night and the food is really good for the money. Peanut loved not having to cook and I just loved eating! Nothing fancy and bearing in mind we had sat in our Clubbie the night before eating fish and chips it was a poor choice from me but so what I loved the fish, chips and mushy peas! Peanut meanwhile had gammon, egg and chips. Furthermore as it came from the lite bite menu we had room for dessert. We did a smashing move here, Peanut had a white chocolate Mousse with red fruits and I had toffee profiterole cheesecake. We halved each one and shared and it made for a gorgeous dessert!

A Poncy haircut and great company on Saturday night made this a great day.

Sunday 27/02/2011. On Sunday we caught up with our friends, Rose, John and their daughter Sophie. We hadn’t seen them for a month or so and it was fun catching up. We went over to their place over in Gloucestershire and from there went to a Harvester for lunch. The free salads served as a starter and I enjoyed  a gammon steak with chips, egg and pineapple and Peanut opted for a burger.

After lunch it was back to Rose and John’s for a coffee and a natter. We hatched a plan for our next get together, a visit to the antiques centre in Gloucester and lunch in the town too and then back to theirs to revisit the fortunes of Fred and Bert our Eggheads. To be honest they have been neglected since I declared war on The Big C but now it is time to have a catch up, so next month they will be back with a vengeance and no doubt a mission to boot!

Sunday night saw Peanut once more in work and this left me no alternative but to watch yet another episode of the incredibly average Outcasts on BBC. Even the BBC have moved it from prime time Monday night to half ten on a Sunday night, but I can see that I will have to see this series through! Mind you I did miss a bit of this as I kept falling asleep!

All in all then a great weekend playing out with me feeling stronger each day.

Monday 28/02/2011. After a fun weekend like that I had to go to work and I did a good job of it, though by 4 I was shattered. It is harder than playing but I felt pleased with my efforts and did a full day. Once home though I was shattered so took it easy for the evening.

Tuesday 01/03/2011. Work again and an evening tormenting myself listening to Manchester United lose 2:1 to Chelsea. Aaaaaaaaaaaagh! Tuesday then was not a thrilling day.

Wednesday 02/03/2011. Deep joy the day began with a check up and polish at the dentist! To be honest it was much needed as for some reason the chemo had played havoc with my teeth so they really did need a clean and polish. It really does affect every part of you. Take my cuticles for instance: now when I look at them my nails have thin curved bands on them, 6 to be exact one for each chemo treatment. It seems the nails stop growing for a bit then start again, leaving these dating rings a bit like in a tree!

That then  has been the last 9 days. Fun in parts, ordinary mostly and all part of the waiting game as we wait to hear about hospital appointments for scans and consultations. The longer it goes without me hearing anything the twitchier I will get. Yet at the same time, hearing means learning more about the plans leading up to the biggest battle so far in this campaign against the Big C. It is a battle that has to be fought but like all big battles it has high stakes and to be honest it will get scary when it looms closer.

Peanut meanwhile will be doing her bit in this fight. She will be attacking the Big C from the skies as she embarks on a Skydive in aid of Cancer Research UK. She will be doing this on the the 7th May 2011, so if you haven’t made a donation yet click this button now!

Anyway that’s all for now so have fun, I know we shall be and happy donating!
